چکیده

a preliminary communication (Jackson & Lightbown, 1956) we have reported the inhibitory effect of heptyl N-oxide on the dihydrocozymaseoxidase activities of heart-muscle succinic oxidase preparations and of certain cell-free preparations of Staphylococcus aureus, Eacherichia coli, Proteus vulgariw and Bacillus pumilu&. The present paper includes a more detailed account of this work, together with some further observations.

The NADH dehydrogenase of the respiratory chain of Escherichia coli. I. Properties of the membrane-bound enzyme, its solubilization, and purification to near homogeneity.

The NADH dehydrogenase of the Escherichia coli respiratory chain has been identified by the following properties: (a) its location in membrane vesicles; (b) its inhibition by AMP in a fashion similar to that of the NADH oxidase; (c) its specificity for NADH, but not NADPH, with the same Km for NADH as that of the NADH oxidase; (d) its sensitivity when membrane-bound to inhibition by dicoumarol,...

INFLUENCE OF ENDO THELIUM REMOVAL AND LNAME ON RESPONSES OF RAT COMMON CAROTID ARTERY TO α-ADRENOCEPTOR AGONISTS

In this study we investigated the effects of endothelium removal and L-NAME on responses to α-adrenoceptor agonists. Male Wistar rats were killed by overdose with pentobarbitone sodium, after which the left and right common carotid arteries were removed. Rings of arteries 3-4 mm in length were cut from each vessel and then mounted in 10 mL isolated organ bath, bathed in Krebs maintained at ...

Nature of the specificity of alcohol coupling to L-alanine transport into isolated membrane vesicles of a marine pseudomonad.

Ethanol stimulated the uptake of l-alanine into isolated membrane vesicles of a marine pseudomonad at a rate and to an extent comparable with that obtained with reduced nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NADH) or the artificial electron donor ascorbate-N, N, N', N'-tetramethyl-p-phenylenediamine (ascorbate-TMPD). Methanol and branched-chain alcohols had little or no capacity to energize transpo...
